After leaving school in 1977 I carried on in the long family tradition in the building trade.
So far traced back to Truelove Vincent a carpenter who was born in 1730 in my fathers hometown of Ipswich.
Just like my father I felt at ease working with wood and quite early on I knew a Carpentry based career was my calling.
It wasn't long after leaving school that I was recruited as Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice with a local building Company.
After serving my apprenticeship for three years I had gained my Craft and Advanced Craft City and Guilds Certificates in both Carpentry and Joinery and for the next three years I carried on working for my employer on mainly Government Contracts gaining a variety of extra skills .
In 1983 I decided to leave my employer and take the leap into self employment.
For the next 5 years I worked on many housing developments and large government Contracts including a year working on building a mock German village built at Copehill Down on Salisbury Plain to be used for military training.
In 1989 I moved away from site work and started to trade as Richard Vincent Carpentry and Building.
Over the next few years I was working mainly on Residential properties carrying out general repairs and alterations.
Fitting kitchens as supplied and building Bespoke hand painted kitchens were always in demand as was new Bedrooms and Bathrooms.
I also began building more Garden buildings, Garages, Workshops, Porches, Conservatories Loft Conversions and Extensions.
Throughout the 90’s I continued to build up my business and to the present day most of our work comes from the Extension and Loft Conversion market with occasional New Build work thrown in for good measure.
In 1999 after going through the vetting process I gained membership of the Federation of Master Builders better known as the FMB.
In 2006, Tom one of my son’s joined the business and started an Apprenticeship in Carpentry and became fully City and Guilds Qualified in 2009.
2006 saw us win our first major award in a competition run by the Federation of Master Builders.
After being nominated by one of our customers, we won the South West Region award for displaying outstanding levels of customer service.
Later that year as South West winner we went before the National judging panel and where from an initial 1500 entries we were awarded National Winner at an Award Ceremony in London hosted by Sarah Beeny.
2007 we won our third award ....The Building Excellence Award from Professional Builder Magazine and HBXL a estimating software company.
In 2009 another of my Sons , Guy starts working part time while continuing with his college education.
He would later join the Company full time.
In 2009 I decided to change the business and form it into a Limited Company and started to trade as R Vincent & Sons Ltd.
2010 saw us nominated by satisfied customers for two more awards , one a customer service award and the other for work to a new extension to a old Mill workers cottage.
2012 We were again nominated for the Fmb Master Builder awards by our customer for work carried out building 3 new buildings in the grounds of an Oak framed house.
2014 We were again nominated by a satisfied customer for the Fmb Master Builder awards for an Extension built onto their 400 year old cottage.
2016 Once again we were nominated by our customer for the Fmb Master Builder Awards for an extension and Loft Conversion project.
Today our business is well established with many satisfied customers and a large variety of completed projects behind us.
We are proud of the feed back we receive from our customers and always strive to make our projects run as smoothly and stress free as possible.
